Mr. Joe Walthour, Jr.

Joe Walthour Jr. was born on March 9, 1953 to the late Joe Walthour Sr. and Lottie Mae Walthour in the McIntosh, GA Community.

Joe was educated in the Liberty County School System. After graduation he left looking for greater opportunities and landed in Newark, New Jersey. There he tried many occupations; however, he thrived as a chef.

He returned home to his Liberty County family in 1997. In April of 1999 he married the former Mary Effingger. To maintain his role as a provider, he worked at Elon Technology, Captain Joe’s, Claxton Poultry, and Krystal. He loved to explore his local neighborhood. Joe was a fan of shopping at Kroger in Hinesville, GA and going to the Quality Hair Care barber shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe Sr. and Lottie M. Walthour, Sisters Queen Victoria Stevens, Charlesetta Walthour and Brother Donald Walthour Sr.

Joe was a devoted convert of Islam. He was one of the founding members of Masjid Ma’um where he served as the caller of prayer and the custodian. He returned to Allah on March 03, 2024. May Allah accept his good deeds and enter into Jannatul Firdaus.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving spouse, Mary Walthour and step daughters Shariske and Ashlee Fry all of Hinesville, GA,; Sisters, Florence Simmons of Midway, GA, Josie Proctor and Shirley (Larry) Walthour of Hinesville, GA,; Brother, Bennie (Minnie) Walthour, Brunswick, GA; His “favorite” niece, Paulette S Robertson; a dedicated friend and “brother” Terrance James along with a host of cousins, friends, nieces and nephew. 
 

Final and most sacred arrangements are entrusted to the professional care of The Dorchester Funeral Home, 7842 E. Oglethorpe Hwy, Midway, GA.
